TRB will conduct a webinar on Monday, September 25, 2017, from 2:00 PM to 3:30 PM ET that features research from the National Cooperative Highway Research Program (NCHRP) Synthesis 495: Use of Reclaimed Asphalt Pavement and Recycled Asphalt Shingles in Asphalt Mixtures.

The webinar will provide a summary of current practices for the use of reclaimed asphalt pavement (RAP) and recycled asphalt shingles (RAS) in design, production, and construction of asphalt mixtures. Presenters will discuss properties of recycled materials and factors to consider when producing and placing mixtures.

Some registrants will need to pay $95 to attend this webinarSign into MyTRB.org to view registration information.

Webinar Presenters

  • Mary Stroup-Gardiner, Gardiner Technical Services
  • Tony Felix, Reeves Construction
  • Tim Aschenbrener, Federal Highway Administration

Moderated by: Ben Bowers, Virginia Department of Transportation

Webinar Outline

  1. Overview of NCHRP
  2. Properties of recycled materials
    • Properties testing
    • Designing mixes
    • Determining optimum content
    • Estimating performance
  1. Factors to consider when producing and placing mixtures with recycled materials
  2. Question and answer session

The first 60 minutes of the webinar will be for presentations and the final 30 minutes will be reserved for audience questions. The Registered Continuing Education Program (RCEP) categorizes this webinar activity as relating to health, safety, and welfare including core technical.

Learning Objectives

At the end of this webinar, participants will be able to:

  • Understand key recycled materials that need to be determined for mix designs and quality control
  • Describe how recycled material properties can influence mix design volumetric calculations
  • Discuss options for determining the total useful asphalt content in a recycled material mixture
  • Describe stockpiling and asphalt plant factors which can limit the maximum amount of recycled materials added during production

Professional Development Hour Information

A certificate for 1.5 Professional Development Hours (PDHs) will be provided to Professional Engineers (PEs) who register and attend the webinar as an individual. For groups, only the person that registers and attends the session will receive a PDH certificate. Certificates of Completion will be issued only to individuals who register for and attend the entire webinar session.

Individuals registered as Florida PEs are no longer required to email TRB with your license number to report your attendance. Instead, please use your certificate that TRB provides through RCEP.net as verification of your attendance to the Florida Board of Professional Engineers.

Please check with your licensing board to ensure that TRB webinar PDHs are approved by your board.
