TRB will conduct a webinar on Tuesday, July 31, 2018, from 1:00 PM to 2:30 PM ET that features research from the National Cooperative Highway Research Program (NCHRP)’s Web Only Document 245: Superstructure Tolerance to Total and Differential Foundation Movements.

This webinar will describe the recommended changes to the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO) Load and Resistance Factor Design strength and service limitations. Presenters will explain how to calculate tolerable support movements for highway bridges.

Some registrants will need to pay $95 to attend this webinar.  Sign into MyTRB.org to view registration information.

Webinar Presenters

  • Franklin Moon, Rutgers University

Moderated by:  Nicolas Romano, Rutgers University

Webinar Outline

  1. Overview of NCHRP
  1. Introduction of current guidance related to tolerable support movements
  2. Approach taken to re-examine tolerable support movements and develop improved design expressions
  3. Results of steel multi-girder and prestressed concrete multi-girder bridges
  4. Development of simplified expressions for tolerable support movement
  5. Procedure to compute tolerable support movements for bridges that fall outside the applicability of simplified expressions
  6. Impact of proposed changes on current bridge practice
  7. Question and answer session

The first 60 minutes of the webinar will be for presentations and the final 30 minutes will be reserved for audience questions. The Registered Continuing Education Program (RCEP) categorizes this webinar activity as relating to health, safety, and welfare including core technical.

Learning Objectives

At the end of this webinar, participants will be able to:

  • Describe guidance about tolerable support movements
  • Compute tolerable support movements for common steel multi-girder and prestressed concrete multi-girder bridges

Professional Development Hour Information

A certificate for 1.5 Professional Development Hours (PDHs) will be provided to Professional Engineers (PEs) who register and attend the webinar as an individual. For groups, only the person that registers and attends the session will receive a PDH certificate. Certificates of Completion will be issued only to individuals who register for and attend the entire webinar session.

Individuals registered as Florida PEs are no longer required to email TRB with your license number to report your attendance. Instead, please use your certificate that TRB provides through RCEP.net as verification of your attendance to the Florida Board of Professional Engineers.

Please check with your licensing board to ensure that TRB webinar PDHs are approved by your board.
