Does your organization know how to measure and verify pavement surface condition data based on mapping sensor technologies? TRB will conduct a webinar on Wednesday, June 10, 2020, from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM Eastern to discuss the challenges and solutions from experience on actual projects. In pavement management systems, accurate and precise condition data are essential for making data-driven decisions about maintenance and rehabilitation projects. Some condition data, including surface cracking and other distress types, have been collected through manual windshield and walking surveys. There are newer semi-automated surveys as well as fully automated surveys that are now available to collect pavement surface condition data, and there is a need to ensure adequate quality of the collected data and consistency with previously collected data. Presenters will provide guidelines regarding certification and verification of pavement surface condition data. They will also discuss how to reconcile the differences between the old and new data collection technologies.

This webinar was organized by the TRB Standing Committee on Pavement Management Systems and the Standing Committee on Pavement Condition Evaluation.

Some registrants will need to pay $95 to attend this webinar. Sign into MyTRB.org to view registration information.

Webinar agenda and presenters

  1. State of the practice of pavement condition data: Andy Mergenmeier, U.SFederal Highway Administration
  2. Calibration and verification of highway and street distresses: Doug Frith, Quality Engineering Solutions
  3. Certification and verification of airfield pavement distress data: Monty Wade, Applied Pavement Technology
  4. Certification and verification of transverse profile data: John Ferris
  5. Questions and answers: Moderated by Nima Kargah-Ostadi, iEngineering Corporation

The first 90 minutes of the webinar will be for presentations and the final 30 minutes will be reserved for audience questions.

Learning Objectives

At the end of this webinar, participants will be able to:

  1. Identify current practices for certification and verification of pavement condition data using advanced mapping sensor technology
  2. Discuss limitations of various technologies and list solutions to overcome limitations
  3. Consider data quality when making pavement management decisions
  4. List sources available for further investigation and knowledge acquisition on these topics

Professional Development Hour Information

Professional engineers (PEs) who register and attend the entire webinar as an individual will be awarded 2.0 Professional Development Hours (PDHs). TRB’s webinar program awards PDH credits only to the registered individual, and not to other members of a group that view the webinar together. To be eligible for the credits, individuals must remain signed in for the entire webinar, including for any question and answer session following the presentations.

Pre-registration is required. Once the webinar starts, you will be unable to register. Individuals that are registered for a webinar but do not receive their confirmation emails due to their organization’s internal firewalls should contact the TRB Helpdesk for assistance in signing in.

Please check with your licensing board to ensure that TRB webinar PDHs are approved by your board.

TRB will report credits earned to the Registered Continuing Education Program (RCEP). Complaints about registered providers may be sent to RCEP, 1015 15th Street, NW, 8th Floor, Washington, D.C., 20005.
