Transportation accounts for more than a quarter of the greenhouse gas emissions that are causing climate change. Public transportation has the potential to be included as a major part of climate action strategies. TRB hosted a webinar on Wednesday, July 21, from 1:00 to 2:30 PM Eastern that explored how to incorporate transit as a climate solution. Presenters explained the sustainability benefits of public transportation, including a reduced carbon footprint and a reduction in greenhouse gas emissions. They also provided tools transit agencies can use to plan low-carbon transportation solutions.

The webinar features research from TCRP Report 226: An Update on Public Transportation’s Impacts on Greenhouse Gas Emissions.

The slides and recorded webinar are available.

Webinar agenda and presenters:

  1. National sustainability benefits of public transportation: Jen McGraw, Center for Neighborhood Technology
  2. Benefits to transit agencies of addressing sustainability: Amy Pettine, Nelson/Nygaard
  3. Transit agency perspective on implementing sustainable solutions: Angie Gompert, Vineyard Transit Authority
  4. Question and answer session: Moderated by Jen McGraw, Center for Neighborhood Technology
