Temporary pavement markings in work zones help direct drivers safely through various work zone configurations. TRB hosted a webinar on Tuesday, August 16, 2022 from 2:30 – 4:00 p.m. Eastern that provided an overview of state department of transportation (DOT) practices for temporary pavement markings in work zones and pavement marking removal. Duration, weather conditions, time of year, ease of placement, pavement type, traffic volume, and equipment availability all play a role in determining which markings are used. Presenters discussed materials and methods, evaluation studies, specifications, considerations, and challenges. Presenters also covered innovative solutions such as performance-based specifications, wet reflective markings, foil-backed tape, and pattern masking.

This webinar will cover information included in NCHRP Synthesis 574: Temporary Pavement Markings Placement and Removal Practices in Work Zones.

This webinar was sponsored by the TRB Standing Technical Committee on Air Quality and Greenhouse Gas Mitigation.
