Multiple research studies including those from TRB, AASHTO, and PIARC (World Road Association) are pointing to the changing mission and role of transportation agencies and the actions transportation agencies can take to prepare for the future. TRB hosted a webinar on Wednesday, August 7, 2024 from 12:00 PM to 1:30 PM Eastern that extended the circle of practitioners who are able to participate in the conversation about this change. Presenters shared three ongoing research initiatives: TRB’s Critical Issues in Transportation 2024 and Beyond, American Association of State Highway Transportation Officials’ national transportation vision framework, and PIARC’s research on the transportation agency of the future. Presenters highlighted the findings of these studies regarding the changing role of transportation and discuss how individual agencies can apply these concepts.
This webinar was a follow on to the 2024 TRB Annual Meeting Workshop 1050: Designing the Transportation Agency of the Future.
This webinar featured research from NCHRP Research Results Digest 404: Collective and Individual Actions to Envision and Realize the Next Era of America’s Transportation Infrastructure.
This webinar was sponsored by TRB’s Executive Office, National Cooperative Highway Research Program, and the Standing Technical Committee on Strategic Management.
The slides and recording are available.
