Details

TRB will conduct a webinar on Thursday, August 2, 2018, from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM ET that features research from the National Cooperative Highway Research Program (NCHRP)’s Research Report 868: Cell Phone Location Data for Travel Behavior Analysis.

The research evaluates the extent to which cell phone location data and associated products accurately depict travel. The presenters will provide guidelines on the use of the data, also referred to as call detail records (CDRs), to understand and model travel patterns and behavior. CDRs are packaged for different planning and modeling purposes. However, proprietary methods may not allow for a clear evaluation of each data source or associated product. The presenters will evaluate the different products based on the analysis of anonymized cell phone data.

Some registrants will need to pay $95 to attend this webinar.  Sign into MyTRB.org to view registration information.

Webinar Outline

  1. Overview of NCHRP
  2. Introduction
  3. Cell Phone Location Data for Travel Behavior Analysis
    • Comparing CDR-based results and statistics with results from traditional surveys
    • Boston case study
    • Translating CDR locational data to estimates of regional travel
  4. Question and answer session

The first 90 minutes of the webinar will be for presentations and the final 30 minutes will be reserved for audience questions. The Registered Continuing Education Program (RCEP) categorizes this webinar activity as relating to health, safety, and welfare including core technical.

Learning Objectives

At the end of this webinar, participants will be able to:

  • Understand the extent to which CDR data, GPS data, and cell phone app-based data can augment or replace traditional means of data collection
  • Understand how the lessons learned from traditional data and methods apply to, and can help, inform new sources of data and emerging analysis methods
  • Discuss how the different individual components or aspects of regional models may be supported by each of these new forms of data
  • Understand whether CDR data, GPS data, and cell phone app-based data can be a unique data source for these model components

Professional Development Hour Information

A certificate for 2.0 Professional Development Hours (PDHs) will be provided to Professional Engineers (PEs) who register and attend the webinar as an individual. For groups, only the person that registers and attends the session will receive a PDH certificate. Certificates of Completion will be issued only to individuals who register for and attend the entire webinar session.

Individuals registered as Florida PEs are no longer required to email TRB with your license number to report your attendance. Instead, please use your certificate that TRB provides through RCEP.net as verification of your attendance to the Florida Board of Professional Engineers.

Please check with your licensing board to ensure that TRB webinar PDHs are approved by your board.
