TRB Webinar: Six Steps to Advance State DOT Connected and Automated Vehicle Programs February 12, 2026 01:00 PM - 02:30 PM U.S. Eastern 1.50 0.00 1.50 0.00

Connected and automated vehicle (CAV) technologies are evolving rapidly, requiring state departments of transportation (DOTs) to continually adapt their programs, policies, and partnerships. TRB will host a webinar on Thursday, February 12, 2026 from 1:00 PM to 2:30 PM Eastern that will highlight key lessons learned from a first-of-its-kind nationwide peer exchange of CAV program managers and practitioners from 39 state DOT infrastructure owners and operators (IOO). This webinar will present findings from the NCHRP 20-24(147) project, Identify Best Practices for Automated Driving Systems and Other Emerging Technologies, with a focus on six cross-cutting priorities for action and practical approaches for implementation. Topics include organizational readiness, cross-state coordination, and collaboration with original equipment manufacturers, vendors, and data consumers. Presenters will share how these priorities can help state DOTs and their public and private partners advance safety and mobility goals and overcome common barriers to successful technology deployment.
This webinar is sponsored by TRB’s National Cooperative Highway Research Program.
The registration fee is $100. Purchase a webinar package for discounted pricing. Complimentary registration is available for employees of TRB sponsors, standing technical committee chairs, involved CRP panel members, media, congressional staff, and TRB or National Academies staff. TRB Webinar: Addressing Long-Term Effects of Aging Government Fleet Assets February 19, 2026 03:00 PM - 04:30 PM U.S. Eastern 1.50 0.00 1.50 0.00

As government fleets continue to age and funding constraints persist, agencies are increasingly challenged to make informed, defensible decisions about asset replacement. Documenting and sharing successful fleet management practices can help fleet managers and DOT stakeholders better assess long-term impacts and prioritize limited resources among competing agency needs. TRB will host a webinar on Thursday, February 19, 2026 from 3:00 PM to 4:30 PM Eastern that will highlight two successful DOT approaches for estimating the costs associated with delaying fleet asset replacement beyond the optimal replacement period. This webinar will focus on practices and procedures used to evaluate long-term effects of aging fleet assets and the tradeoffs involved in deferred replacement. Presenters will discuss how these approaches support the development of decision-making tools and models that effectively communicate long-term impacts to agency leadership and other decision makers.
This webinar is based on NCHRP Domestic Scan 23-05: Successful Approaches to Validating and Communicating the Long-term Effects of Aging Government Fleet Assets.
This webinar is sponsored by TRB’s National Cooperative Highway Research Program.

TRB Webinar: Improving Mobility in Rural and Tribal Communities February 25, 2026 11:00 AM - 12:00 PM U.S. Eastern 1.00 0.00 1.00 0.00

Travel needs and the potential to provide effective public transit differ significantly in rural and tribal communities compared to more densely populated urban areas. In addition, rural and tribal communities vary widely among themselves in terms of geography, population, resources, and mobility needs, all of which affect how transit services can be planned and delivered. TRB will host a webinar on Wednesday, February 25, 2026 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM Eastern that will explore a range of service design strategies and transit modes, including emerging non-traditional services, that may be appropriate for rural and tribal contexts. This webinar will also highlight practices aimed at improving efficiency and effectiveness in providing mobility options. Presenters will share examples, lessons learned, and practical considerations to help agencies better respond to the diverse mobility needs of rural and tribal communities.
This webinar is based on NCHRP Research Report 1144 & TCRP Research Report 251: Public Transportation in Rural Areas and Tribal Communities: Guide for Service Improvements.
This webinar is sponsored by TRB’s National Cooperative Highway Research Program and Transit Cooperative Research Program.

TRB Webinar: Rethinking the Road Test to Identify High-Risk Drivers February 27, 2026 12:00 PM - 01:30 PM U.S. Eastern 1.50 0.00 0.00 0.00

How effective is today’s driver skills exam in identifying high-risk drivers before they drive alone? TRB will host a webinar on Friday, February 27, 2026 from 12:00 PM to 1:30 PM Eastern that will examine the extent to which current driver skills exams identify high-risk drivers before they begin driving independently. This webinar will explore findings from BTSCRP Research Report 16: Predicting High-Risk Driver: Skills Examination and Scoring Guidelines, which evaluated the driver skills test used in Washington State. The study investigates how current road test scoring captures, or fails to capture, key behavioral indicators linked to crash risk. Presenters will discuss the implications of these findings for improving driver assessment practices and share insights relevant to policymakers, state officials, and traffic safety researchers.
This webinar is sponsored by TRB’s Behavioral Traffic Safety Cooperative Research Program.

With the release of the Second Edition of the AASHTO Highway Safety Manual anticipated in 2026, transportation practitioners face increasing expectations to clearly and defensibly communicate safety performance in ways that can withstand professional and legal scrutiny. TRB will host a webinar on Monday, March 2, 2026 from 1:00 PM to 2:30 PM Eastern that will examine how carefully chosen language—and the avoidance of certain terms and phrases—can reduce the risk of misinterpretation or misuse of safety-related documents in legal and professional settings. Drawing on examples from a style and usage guide developed to inform safety research, this webinar will highlight words and phrases that carry legal implications and explain their potential effects. Attendees will learn how these principles can be applied when developing reports, summaries, and other documentation to help minimize liability concerns while clearly conveying safety performance information.
