TRB will conduct a webinar on Monday, November 26, 2018 from 2:00 PM to 3:30 PM ET that will discuss balanced/performance-engineered asphalt mixture design. Agencies have identified the integration of mechanical and performance tests with current volumetric design practice as an encouraging method for the production of longer-lasting asphalt pavements. Part 2 of this webinar series identifies case studies from agencies and contractors who have completed a successful implementation of balanced/performance-engineered mixture design. Presenters will share challenges experienced during implementation and describe how they were addressed. They will also discuss the benefits experienced using the methodology and identify areas for future improvement. Part 1 of the series will take place on Thursday, November 1.

This webinar was organized by the TRB Standing Committees on Nonasphalt Components of Asphalt Paving Mixtures, Structural Requirements of Asphalt Mixtures, and Surface Requirements of Asphalt Mixtures.

  • Describe the concept of balanced/performance-engineered asphalt mixture design
  • Identify the potential benefits of implementing balanced/performance-engineered mixture design
  • Discuss potential obstacles to successful implementation of balanced/performance-engineered mixture design and identify strategies used by agencies to mitigate such obstacles
  • Identify future needs for improvement in the area of balanced/performance-engineered mixture design

Professional Development Hour Information

A certificate for 1.5 Professional Development Hours (PDHs) will be provided to Professional Engineers (PEs) who register and attend the webinar as an individual. For groups, only the person that registers and attends the session will receive a PDH certificate. Certificates of Completion will be issued only to individuals who register for and attend the entire webinar session.

Individuals registered as Florida PEs are no longer required to email TRB with your license number to report your attendance. Instead, please use your certificate that TRB provides through RCEP.net as verification of your attendance to the Florida Board of Professional Engineers.
