The rapid introduction of unmanned aircraft systems (UAS) affects the national airspace system and its existing stakeholders. TRB hosted a webinar on Tuesday, April 20, 2021 from 2:00 to 3:30 PM Eastern that addressed the range of new safety, economic, operational, regulatory, community, environmental, and infrastructure challenges to airports that have emerged due to UAS. Presenters identified resources that airports can immediately use to avoid adverse impacts and maximize benefits. This is the first in a two-part webinar series. Register for Part 2.

The webinar features research from ACRP Research Report 212: Airports and Unmanned Aircraft Systems, Volume 1: Managing and Engaging Stakeholders on UAS in the Vicinity of Airports.

The slides and recording are available.

Webinar agenda and presenters:

  1. Overview of report: Uven Chong, Hovecon
  2. Managing UAS operations near an airport: Richard Stansbury, Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University
  3. Engaging stakeholders in UAS: Basil Yap, Hovecon
  4. Question and answer session: Moderated by Heather Hasper, DHJ Alaska

The first 60 minutes of the webinar will be for presentations and the final 30 minutes will be reserved for audience questions.

Learning Objectives

At the end of this webinar, you will able to:

  1. Discuss managing non-airport sponsored UAS operations
  2. Identify potential stakeholders and assess how UAS operations may impact them
