TRB‘s Highway Capacity Manual, Seventh Edition: A Guide for Multimodal Mobility Analytics (HCM7) updates research on highway operations and quality of service. Past HCM editions always analyzed freeways and surface streets as separate facilities. Now, for the first time, HCM7 provides methods for evaluating interactions between freeways and arterials. TRB hosted a webinar on Thursday, July 14, 2022 from 1:30 PM to 3:00 PM Eastern that explored the new facility and systems method in the HCM7, including two-lane highways, freeway-arterial systems, and active traffic management. The webinar also provided an overview of the methods and discuss ways the results will impact practitioners.

This was the second of a three part series on the new HCM7. Part 3 in the series will address new multimodal methods in the manual on August 3. Part 1 addressed overall new methods in the HCM7 and covered ways these new methods impact practitioners.

This webinar was sponsored by the TRB Standing Technical Committee on Highway Capacity and Quality of Service.

The slides and recording are available.
