Broadband communications, renewable energy, and many other utility-related facilities are seeking space in state departments of transportation (DOTs) rights-of-way. State DOTs are investigating the use of compensation structures in exchange for accommodating these utilities, and are seeking approaches and valuation methods to set fees. TRB hosted a webinar on Wednesday, April 24, 2024 from 2:00 PM to 3:30 PM Eastern that presented a range of approaches to consider for setting compensation structures for utility accommodations.
This webinar was based on NCHRP Research Report 1053: Valuation and Compensation Approaches in Utility Accommodation: A Guide and NCHRP Web-Only Document 359: Valuation and Compensation for Accommodating Utility and Communications Installations in Public Rights-of-Way.
This webinar was sponsored by TRB’s National Cooperative Highway Research Program and the Standing Technical Committee on Utilities.
The slides are available. Please contact trbwebinar@nas.edu for a link to the recording. There may be a $90 fee.
