Traffic safety technologies for detecting driver impairment rapidly evolve and gain traction. Understanding the current landscape, opportunities, and future potential of in-vehicle impairment detection is crucial for guiding industry innovation, shaping effective policies, and ultimately saving lives on our roads. TRB will host a webinar on Monday, September 23, 2024 from 3:00 PM to 4:30 PM Eastern that will explore in-vehicle impairment detection technologies, including current applications, opportunities, limitations, and future implications. Presenters will share the complexities and challenges involved in impairment detection and developing driver monitoring systems. Presenters will also provide considerations for consumer trust and acceptance of these emerging technologies.

The first 60 minutes of the webinar will be for presentations and the final 30 minutes will be reserved for audience questions.
 
Learning Objectives
At the end of this webinar, participants will be able to:

  • Recognize physiological and behavioral indicators used in impairment detection and development of driver monitoring systems
  • Gain awareness of the complexities involved in developing accurate and reliable impairment detection technology
  • Convey the importance of consumer trust in emerging impairment detection technology

 
Professional Development Hours
Professional engineers (PEs) who register and attend the entire webinar as an individual will be awarded 1.5 Professional Development Hours (PDHs). TRB’s webinar program awards PDH credits only to the registered individual, and not to other members of a group that view the webinar together. To be eligible for the credits, individuals must remain signed in for the entire webinar, including for any question and answer session following the presentations.
This webinar will be delivered as a scheduled – e-learning live event and is categorized within RCEP as Technical, Health and Safety.
