Transit operators and other frontline workers often deal with high-stress situations, including fatalities, exposure to drug use, along with verbal and physical assaults. Such situations can take a serious toll on their mental health. These stressors contribute to difficulties in both hiring and retaining transit workers.  TRB hosted a webinar on Thursday, December 12, 2024 from 1:00 PM to 2:30 PM Eastern that explored the key stress factors affecting workers and offer actionable solutions for agencies to improve working conditions. Presenters discussed how agencies can address the root causes of stress, develop effective mental health programs, and implement strategies to enhance morale and build trust among frontline employees.

This webinar was based on TCRP Report 245: Mental Health, Wellness, and Resilience for Transit System Workers.

This webinar was sponsored by TRB’s Transit Cooperative Research Program and the Standing Technical Committee on Truck and Bus Safety.

The slides are available. Please contact trbwebinar@nas.edu for a link to the recording.
