Wide cracks in asphalt pavements can compromise roadway performance and safety. Advances in materials, procedures, and practices are improving the effectiveness and durability of wide crack repairs. TRB hosted a webinar on Monday, December 8, 2025 from 12:00 PM to 1:30 PM Eastern that explored how agencies define and address wide cracks in asphalt-surfaced pavements. The session highlighted current maintenance practices and featured examples from state departments of transportation (DOTs) with well-defined wide crack maintenance procedures. Presenters shared their approaches, discussed material selection and application techniques, and provided insights that can help maintenance departments strengthen their own guidelines and performance outcomes.
This webinar was based on NCHRP Synthesis Report 640: Wide Cracks and Joints in Flexible and Composite Pavements: State DOT Maintenance Practices.
This webinar was sponsored by TRB’s National Cooperative Highway Research Program.
