Are you looking for efficient and non-destructive methods for asphalt quality assurance? The Density Profiling System (DPS) offers real-time, continuous density measurements that enhance pavement performance and construction outcomes. TRB hosted a webinar on Thursday, December 18, 2025, from 1:00 PM to 2:30 PM Eastern that explored the application and advantages of DPS technology for continuous, non-destructive asphalt pavement density measurement. Presenters shared agency perspectives and case studies from recent field implementations, highlighting how DPS improves quality assurance, supports data-driven decision-making, and contributes to long-term pavement performance.
The slides are available.

Webinar agenda and presenters

  • Federal Highway Administration research on the density profiling system – Hoda Azari, FHWA
  • Minnesota experience with the DPS TPF: First phase research and development findings and phase 2 implementation strategies – Kyle Hoegh, Minnesota Department of Transportation
  • Michigan DOT case studies on DPS mix calibration, field validation, and data accuracy and repeatability – Fawaz Kaseer, Michigan Department of Transportation
  • Question and answer session moderated by Hoda Azari, FHWA

The first 60 minutes of the webinar were for presentations and the final 30 minutes were reserved for audience questions.

Learning Objectives
At the end of this webinar, participants can:

  • Apply DPS for continuous, real-time asphalt density measurements during pavement construction
  • Understand how agencies integrate DPS into their own specifications and workflows
  • Evaluate DPS mix calibration methods and assess the accuracy, variability, and repeatability of density measurements
