As government fleets continue to age and funding constraints persist, agencies are increasingly challenged to make informed, defensible decisions about asset replacement. Documenting and sharing successful fleet management practices can help fleet managers and DOT stakeholders better assess long-term impacts and prioritize limited resources among competing agency needs. TRB hosted a webinar on Thursday, February 19, 2026 from 3:00 PM to 4:30 PM Eastern that highlighted two successful DOT approaches for estimating the costs associated with delaying fleet asset replacement beyond the optimal replacement period. This webinar focused on practices and procedures used to evaluate long-term effects of aging fleet assets and the tradeoffs involved in deferred replacement. Presenters discussed how these approaches support the development of decision-making tools and models that effectively communicate long-term impacts to agency leadership and other decision makers.
This webinar was based on NCHRP Domestic Scan 23-05: Successful Approaches to Validating and Communicating the Long-term Effects of Aging Government Fleet Assets.
This webinar was sponsored by TRB’s National Cooperative Highway Research Program.
