New York City’s congestion pricing program is offering one of the first real-world tests of a policy long discussed across the transportation field. Early data and outcomes are providing valuable insights into how congestion pricing can reduce traffic and generate revenue for transit investments. TRB hosted a webinar on Tuesday, June 9, 2026 from 12:00 PM to 1:30 PM Eastern that provided an overview of New York City's congestion pricing program, including how it was developed, modeled, and implemented. This webinar highlighted impacts on vehicle traffic in and around the congestion relief zone and how program revenues are supporting mass transit capital projects. Presenters discussed the modeling tools and key variables used to forecast outcomes and compare projections with real-world results more than a year after implementation.
This webinar was sponsored by TRB’s Standing Technical Committee on Economics, Finance and Investment Strategy.
The slides are available.
